Trinamool Congress Mourns the Loss of Veteran Leader Idris Ali at 73
In a somber turn of events, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Idris Ali, a stalwart figure in West Bengal’s political landscape, passed away at the age of 73. Ali, who represented Bhagawangola in Murshidabad district, succumbed to illness in the early hours of Friday at a private hospital in Howrah district.
A multifaceted personality, Ali served not only as a dedicated legislator but also held the position of a Member of Parliament (MP) in his illustrious career. Prior to his political endeavors, he practiced law at the Calcutta High Court and managed a family bakery business.
Ali’s contributions extended beyond politics, as he was known for his vocal stance against corruption within the party, even during the last panchayat polls. Despite battling cancer and various age-related ailments, Ali remained committed to serving his constituents.
His absence during the 2021 assembly elections due to COVID-19 did not deter his overwhelming victory, securing over 1 lakh votes. His demise has left a void in the TMC and the wider political spectrum of West Bengal.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed deep sorrow over the loss, recognizing Ali’s significant role as one of the minority leaders within the party.
Ali’s funeral rite took place today and was buried at Gobra Gorasthan no. 1 in evening today Park circus Cemetery, marking the end of an era in West Bengal politics. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to the people of his constituency.
