Kolkata, April 6, 2025 – The streets of Kolkata and Howrah reverberated with chants of “Jai Shri Ram” as Ram Navami was celebrated peacefully across the city on Sunday, marked by vibrant processions and an overwhelming spirit of unity. Gautam Chowdhury, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA from Howrah North, joined the festivities, which saw local muslims actively participating by showering flower petals and providing water to devotees during the Shobha Yatra, a grand procession organized by the party.

Musharat Khanum, a dedicated TMC party worker, expressed her delight during the Shobha Yatra, saying, “It’s heartwarming to see such a peaceful procession in Kolkata. The unity and devotion on display today reflect the true essence of Bengal—where people of all faiths come together to celebrate. This is a festival of harmony, and I’m proud to be a part of it.” Her words highlighted the inclusive atmosphere, with local muslims enhancing the experience by distributing water and sprinkling flowers, adding to the festive cheer.

In a note shared with the press, MLA Gautam Chowdhury reflected on the day’s events, writing, “Ram Navami in Kolkata and Howrah this year has been a testament to our shared values. I joined the rally in Salkia, and what struck me was the absence of divisiveness. Religion has no political color—it’s about faith and togetherness.

Today, we showed that Bengal can celebrate with fervor and peace.” His participation and the TMC’s grassroots efforts underscored the party’s commitment to fostering communal harmony during the celebrations. The peaceful festivities were bolstered by robust security arrangements, with over 4,000 police personnel deployed across Kolkata to manage more than 60 rallies. Drones, CCTV surveillance, and quick response teams ensured the day concluded without incident, earning praise from residents for the administration’s meticulous planning. The sight of TMC workers actively supporting devotees with water and flower petals further elevated the spirit of the occasion.

While the TMC’s involvement was prominent, the celebrations transcended political lines, focusing on devotion and unity. As Kolkata glowed with the success of another harmonious Ram Navami, the sentiments of Musharat Khanum and Gautam Chowdhury, coupled with the party’s thoughtful gestures, reinforced a message of peace and togetherness that resonated across the city.
